CFUW Surrey/White Rock Bursary Awards Announcement

The Bursary Foundation of the Canadian Federation of University Women White Rock/Surrey is taking applications for three Bursaries of approximately $3000 for the 2025-2026 school year.
The awarding of the bursaries is for local women (Surrey, White Rock, Langley) in financial need to further their post-secondary education. Bursaries are open to any post-secondary education including trades training, diploma programs and university/college degrees. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
The deadline for the application is May 29, 2026. Click below to apply.

Introducing the 2025 Bursary Recipients

Priyanka Dhesa

Priyanka Dhesa received the CFUW White Rock Surrey Club’s 65th Anniversary Bursary Award,
for $6500. Priyanka is entering her first year in the UBC Doctor of Medicine program. Raised in
Surrey, she has long been committed to serving her community. Dhesa began volunteering with
local organizations in high school, such as the Surrey Food Band and the Canucks Autism
Network. Motivated by her desire to better understand health inequities and disparities,
Priyanka pursued her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University.

Farrah Rahiman

Farrah Rahiman was awarded the Mary Fran Bateman in Memorium $4000 Bursary. Mary Fran
Bateman was a long-time member of the CFUW Club and Bursary Foundation. Farrah is
pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of the Fraser Valley. After ten
fulfilling years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, she is ready to challenge herself by furthering her skills. As a single mom, becoming a Registered Nurse will empower her to build a stable future for herself and her son.

Shawna Narayan

A graduate of Frank Hurt Secondary in Surrey, Shawna Narayan was presented with the 1988
Executive Board Bursary for $3000. Shawna is a second-year medical student at UBC, aspiring to
become a family physician and clinician-scientist. With over a decade of experience in health research, her work is grounded in the commitment to improving healthcare services for
marginalized communities. In recognition of her contributions to youth empowerment, she was
awarded the Medal of Good Citizenship by the Government of BC in 2018.

This trio of exceptional young women are forging challenging careers in our BC healthcare system and will become community leaders committed to delivering improved healthcare.
Members of CFUW are honoured to play a small part in supporting Priyanka, Farrah and Shawna as they reach to achieve their career goals.
