Community Connections
CFUW White Rock/Surrey is active in our local community. We invite our members to initiate and participate in community activities that include:
Advocacy
As a chartered member of CFUW National, we join sister CFUW clubs across Canada to advocate on social issues including equity & social justice, education and safe & healthy communities. Visit CFUW National’s Advocacy for more information about the latest initiatives.
We’re looking for volunteers to get involved and build on our club’s legacy of advocacy – join us!
Local Community Initiatives
The Book/Magazine Shelf at the Sources Food Bank
Donate gently used books and magazines and make a difference for others.
RETURN IT Depots
This fundraising initiative has members save returnables and return them to the local depots. The funds raised support community-based initiatives.
One-to-One Literacy Program
CFUW White Rock/Surrey has worked collaboratively with the One-to-One Literacy Society in Vancouver to fund and support a children’s literacy program in which trained volunteers tutor in a school setting. The program strives to provide a supportive environment for learning which builds each child’s self-confidence and literacy skills, enabling him or her to become an independent, competent learner.
Presently our volunteers work with one local elementary school and enjoy this rewarding experience.
Bursary Foundation Fundraising
Bursaries are provided to deserving local women in financial need to further their post- secondary education.
Funds are realized through the donations from members, other donors and via club fundraisers. Last year, the Bursary Foundation awarded three bursaries to very deserving local women pursuing their educational and career goals.
Local Community-based Support
Local community-based support for local women and children is a priority for our club. We look to participate in initiatives on an ongoing basis.
